Drill the tank on one of the side panes, or the bottom if it's non-tempered. And a giant return pump will definitely make the water sheet going into the overflow much thicker, especially of it's a stock Megaflow. The C2C overflow is ultimately a remnant of the days when people would need a giant return pump to have enough flow. It also predates much of the wavemaking pump revolution. So why put some big ugly overflow in if you're already at the point of diminishing return? Part of it is this idea predates some of the modern methods of nutrient control like GFO and carbon dosing. Would the tank really be any better off if it was being replaced every 30 seconds? Not really, it's already ULNS with 0.0 mg/l nitrate and 0.00 mg/l phosphate. That's all fine in theory, but I have 24" of overflow in my 120, and even with a fairly low return discharge all of my surface water is replaced every minute or so. The idea is that much of the nasties we want to take out are hydrophobic molecules that collect at the water's surface, so the thinner the sheet of water going into the overflow the greater fraction of dirty surface water vs cleaner water. I think the full length calfo box is way overkill. Let me know what you're doing, how long you've been doing, and how you like it. I don't know, I need some inspiration here. I'm considering maybe doing an overflow on the side then return on the other side. I'd hate to take up the entire back wall of my tank for a calfo overflow divider. However, I'm probably going to have the tank right up against a wall, and won't really be able to have pipes coming out the back. One of my favorite overflow designs that I've found so far is BeanAnimal's overflow setup. So, I'm working out a lot of the details like lighting, filtration, livestock, and all of that, but one of the things I'm still trying to figure out is how to get water from the display tank to the sump. I just bought a house, and now that I'm somewhere that I can keep a tank for several years, it's time to start growing a reef. I had a FOWLR tank in my apartment for the last couple of years. /u/dailyapplecrisp's Fish Harmony (compatibility)Ĭurrently working on designing my first big reef.
